We Tried…Violife’s Chicken Flavour Slices
Today, I’m gonna talk about this new find which I got from Intermart. I first discovered Violife‘s Chicken Flavour Slices when I went to the zoli brunch held at Eat With Fingers. The product is a vegan alternative to chicken ham.
In fact, Violife specialises in 100% vegan products and it’s the first time I ever tried one of their products.
The Price
The pack costed me Rs.119 at Intermart and has 14 slices.
I was pretty surprised (especially because I’m not vegan) by this vegan ham which I found to be very tasty. Thanks to Geraldine, I was able to find the product.
At Eat with Fingers, we tried Violife’s Chicken Flavour Slices during our cooking workshop where we made Pizza-wraps.
How do I store the product?
I keep it within its pack in a sealed bag in the fridge.
Here’s my views on Violife’s Chicken Flavour Slices:
Initially I thought it was vegan cheese because, to me, other than the shape of the slices, it looks more cheese. Texture-wise, I would associate it with cheese rather than ham.
The product has this smoked flavor to it which I enjoy and if you heat it slightly, it melts a little like cheese. I don’t think that this tastes like chicken but I guess that’s the way it’s being marketed. ‘Smoked’ would be a more realistic word.
I started using it in my wraps and sandwiches and I enjoy these slices very much. I find that I prefer to heat it in the microwave so that it melts a little and the smoked flavour intensifies.
Do I recommend it?
I am using it and I barely buy chicken ham or any meat ham. That’s just a matter of taste and preference. To me, this product adds some variety but I’m sure a lot of people will find it as a great alternative.
I think this works great in salads as well and I have yet to try it on a proper pizza. I think that’s the next thing to try. I also skip cheese whenever I’m using the product.
What did I have in this wrap?
In this wrap, I have some mint pesto, lettuce, carrots and tomatoes. I heated the wrap in the microwave before adding the salad and ham to it and rolling it. I find that a warm wrap is easier to roll.
