Oats…More than Plain Porridge
If you have been following me since the beginning, you will notice that I have posted a lot of recipes that include oats. In fact, my very first post is about waffles made out of oats.
Oats are considered to be very healthy for several reasons:
- They are not only a great source of fiber and carbs but proteins as well.
- According to healthline.com, they also contain Magnesium, Zinc, Iron, Vitamin B1 and much more.
- As they are very filling, they can help to lose weight. So if you need to lose some extra kilos, you might want to include oats in your diet.
- Its also commonly believed that oats can help in controlling cholesterol and blood pressure.
I used to hate oats before (as a child) because I only used to have them in porridge but once I discovered various ways of using them in recipes; substituting flour for oats sometimes (thank you internet!) and beyond (…as I’m writing this post, I’m sitting with a DIY face mask made with oats…somehow works for my skin…).
I love oats because I find that it keeps me full for longer periods of time which is pretty awesome for breakfast. I rarely find the need to snack when I have one of my smoothie bowls in the mornings. I also use them in cakes, waffles, cookies, muffins and pancakes. In the case of waffles, I usually put the dried oats in my grinder and that gives me a fine oat flour. You can even substitute breadcrumbs for oats. It gives you more crispiness. I have also come across some recipes while researching where they make plant-based milk out of oats. I haven’t tried it yet but I intend to very soon. (I’ll blog about it when I get to it.)
To sum it up, oats are very versatile and can be used in so many different dishes. They are also healthy and nutritious. I think it’s wise to include them in one’s diet.
