Homemade Yoghurt
My breakfast always includes yoghurt. I use it with cereals or smoothies or some fruits. I also use them for marinating fish or meat, for cakes and desserts and much more. Sometimes I make my own batch of yoghurt, especially if I realise that I will run out of it soon and won’t have time to buy some at the grocery store. It’s pretty handy and very budget friendly!
Even if you do not have an electric yoghurt maker, you can make some delicious yoghurt at home. I have included 2 methods for making your own yoghurt, with and without an electric yoghurt maker.
Let’s get started!
Ingredients:
- 1 Yoghurt (125g) You can use either normal or greek yoghurt. Do not pick any scented or flavoured yoghurt.
- 875ml Milk
Preparation:
Electric Yoghurt Maker Method:
- In a large bowl, mix the yoghurt with the milk. Pour the mixture in the yoghurt jars.
- Next, arrange the jars in the Yoghurt Maker and leave them uncovered.
- Place the Yoghurt Maker’s cover and switch it on for 1 hour.
- After 1 Hour, leave the yoghurt to set in the yoghurt maker itself for 6 hours.
- Cover each little jar and refrigerate.
Yoghurt without Electric Maker Method:
- In a large saucepan, bring the milk to a boil.
- Lower the flame and pour the yoghurt. Stir thoroughly.
- Switch off the flame and cover the saucepan with its lid. Leave it to set for around 4 to 6 hours.
- Pour into a container or small jars and refrigerate.
Serving suggestion: You can top up your yoghurt with fresh and dry fruits, cereals and honey before eating.
