Vegetarian Tartlets Filling

Usually when we talk of vegetarian starters, we think of our typical gato pima, samoussa and baja.  Today I’m sharing the easiest vegetarian filling for tartlets or even vols-au-vent.  Within 20 minutes, you will have the perfect hors d’oeuvres to impress your guests.

Ready-made Tartlets or vol-au-vents are easily available in supermarkets or in pastry shops in Mauritius.  If you are getting Tartlets, check the ingredients as tartlets can have either sugar or salt.

Ingredients:

  • 20g Bell Pepper
  • Around 10 Green Olives
  • 10 cl of Cooking Cream
  • 10g of grated cheese of your choice.  (Parmesan, Mozzarella or Cheddar are excellent choices)
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Mixed Herbs
  • Salt to taste

Preparation:

  1. Chop the Bell Pepper and Olives finely
  2. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients and season with salt
  3. Arrange your tartlets in a baking tray and fill them with the mixture
  4. Bake at 180C for 10 to 15 minutes or until the tops turn into a light golden colour
