Breakfast Oat Smoothie
We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But do we all have the time to eat in the morning? Sometimes we had enough of our dipain, diber, banane or we’re just looking to try something easy and new. This recipe can be altered for vegan preferences as well by using dairy alternatives.
The breakfast Oat Smoothie is a great choice, whether you’re looking for healthy or a quick fix. You can play with the flavors, add whatever goodies you want and enjoy. It’s also very filling and feels like you’re having dessert for breakfast; except it’s very nutritious.
If you have more time to spare, you can make it a little fancy by topping it up with chopped fruits to make a pretty presentation.
If, like me, you’re rushing to work in the morning, just toss everything in your blender, pour in your container and you’re good to go.
Ingredients
- 8 tablespoon oats
- 1 banana
- Half apple
- 1 cup yogurt or milk (you can also substitute with almond milk or other vegan alternatives to dairy)
- 1 cup water
- 5 pitted dates or prunes
Preparation
1. Soak oats in water and yogurt for at least 1 hour or overnight
2. Chop your fruits into small pieces before tossing them in your blender. Blend until it forms a smooth mixture.
3. Add oats and yogurt mixture, blend again to incorporate.
4. Top up with fruits of your choice and a large spoon of nut butter. I’m using peanut butter today. In my case, today it’s frozen red fruits. You can also sprinkle a little nutmeg, cocoa or cinnamon powder.
5. Serve in a bowl or pour in a container if you’re having it later during the day.
For those who prefer a liquid consistency, add less oats and use more liquid. Replace yogurt with milk of your choice.
Take it to another notch by preparing your own peanut butter in advance.
You can also make your own homemade yogurt in advance.
