Hi there! I’m Hanshini Appannah, the home cook and dedicated food blogger behind Foodwini.com. Based right here in Mauritius, Foodwini is where my love for cooking truly comes to life, shared with all of you through delicious recipes and culinary adventures.
A Lifelong Love Affair with Food
My cooking journey started in my mom’s kitchen. It began simply, by helping mom pick ‘cari poulet’ (curry leaves) and thyme from our backyard. Carried on by beating eggs and slowly transitioned into taking more challenging tasks like sprinkling cheese on pizza, mixing the already mixed cake batter… you know… the things to keep you interested.
That slowly transitioned into a passion for food and creating something with my own hands and the satisfaction I get whenever someone tries my dish and tells me it’s delicious.
There’s isn’t one day when my mom and I don’t talk about food. I always ask for her advice, discuss things and she also appreciates my ideas. We teach each other today.
Copywriting Expertise Meets Food Blogging
While completing my BA (Hons) in English from the Open University of Mauritius, my kitchen experiments often turned into homemade cakes and treats for my friends and family. The constant requests for recipes led me to the idea of a blog where I could easily share my creations. That’s how I started Foodwini.
With over 7 years of experience as a copywriter, I’ve honed my skills in crafting engaging content for various media, including websites, magazines, newspapers, and social media, in English, French, and Kreol Morisien. Writing for Foodwini was easy. The experiences are authentic.
What began as a simple desire to share my passion for cooking and healthy eating has grown into Foodwini. I continue to balance my work as a copywriter with my dedication to food blogging, bringing my writing expertise to every recipe I create.
I took an interest in Food Photography and Videography through Foodwini. Obviously, I wanted to make the visuals attractive. That’s how I got into it. I was sceptic at first but eventually, I got started. Today, I’m proud of the journey so far and I’m still learning.
While copywriting remains my main professional activity, Foodwini is an outlet for me. Through my words and lens, I get to explore my creativity and push those limits.
My Cooking Philosophy
My cooking philosophy is simple: authentic, genuine cooking and a passion for sharing that experience with you. While we share a lot of on vegetarian meals, my aim is to make good food that’s accessible to everyone. You won’t often find Foodwini reviewing restaurants, as my heart lies in the personal experience of preparing and enjoying food at home. I believe in educating about ingredients, exploring Mauritian cuisine, and inspiring you to embark on your own cooking adventures with our recipes.
