Lamb Seekh Kebab

I felt adventurous as I looked at the gorgeous piece of Lamb at the supermarket.  It looked perfect in that large freezer and it seemed to call for my attention.  I already knew what to do with it!  Yes, Seekh Kebab!  They make a nice starter and since they’re oven-baked, they are very juicy and rich in flavour.  Yummy!

Are you ready to make your own Seekh Kebab?  Then, grab your knife (you will be chopping a lot today) and let’s get started!!

I make my own minced meat (it’s fairly easy with my electric mixer that comes with a few options: blender, mixer, meat mincer).  You can also buy minced meat for this recipe.  For the spices, you can play with the dosage according to your taste, especially with the chilli.

Ingredients:

  • 500g Minced Lamb Meat
  • 1 Big Onion
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 Green Chilli (You can also use chilli powder)
  • 2 Tablespoons Garam Masala
  • 1 Tablespoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Cardamon Powder
  • 1 Pinch of Nutmet
  • 3/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon Powder
  • 3 Garlic Cloves
  • 1/4 clove of Ginger
  • 2 Tablespoon Anise Powder
  • 1 Bunch of Coriander Leaves
  • 1 handful of Mint Leaves
  • 1 Tablespoon MeltedButter or Oil (Or Ghee)
  • 3 or 4 Teaspoon Lime Juice (Optional)
  • Rice Flour
  • Oil

Preparation:

  1. Preheat your oven
  2. Chop your onions into big chunks.  Cut the Coriander Leaves.
  3. In your grinder, add the onions, coriander leaves, ginger and garlic.  Blend until it forms a thick paste.
  4. Chop the mint leaves finely.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, mix the lamb, the thick onion paste, the rest of the ingredients, except the rice flour.  Don’t be afraid to use your hands, you’ll work faster.
  6. Next, add a tablespoon or two of rice flour.  This will help to absorb some of the moisture from the mixture.  You will shape the kebabs faster this way.
  7. Next, take a small ball of the mixture and shape it like mini sausages or in small meat balls.
  8. Set your kebabs on a baking tray, lined up with a baking sheet.  Brush the kebabs with oil.
  9. Bake your kebabs at 160 C for 20 Minutes.  After 20 Minutes, flip them and bake them another 10 minutes.
  10. Your kebabs are ready to be enjoyed!
