Health Bread

This week I decided to make my homemade health bread.  For this recipe I’m using multi-grain flour as the main ingredient.  I find that the bread is very filling when I use it.  Furthermore, multi-grain flour is considered to be healthy since it contains grains such as oats.  It’s also rich in fiber.

I find it very satisfying to make my own bread!  I usually enjoy having the first slice with butter, especially when it is freshly baked and still hot!  It is just slightly crispy on the outside and very soft and spongy on the inside.  I also use it for my sandwiches.

Now, roll up your sleeves because we’re going to make a nice loaf of bread!  (By the way, you can use this recipe to make multigrain pizza dough too)

Ingredients

  • 400 g Multigrain Flour
  • 100 g All Purpose Flour
  • 4 Teaspoons dry yeast
  • 2 Tablespoons Mixed Herbs
  • 1/2 Teaspoon salt
  • 4 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 Glass warm water
  • 1/4 Cup milk

Preparation

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour with the salt, yeast and mix herbs.
  2. Add the olive oil and mix well, until it incorporates with the dry ingredients.
  3. Add some warm water gradually and knead, using your hands, until it forms a soft dough.
  4. Sprinkle a tablespoon of olive oil over the dough and let it rest in a warm place for around 2 hours.  The yeast will work it’s magic and your dough will double in volume.
  5. Knead the dough again and place in a buttered mold.  I used a rectangular one for this.  Let it rest for some 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven.
  7. Brush the top with milk.  This will help to give it a nice golden colour to the bread.
  8. Bake at 160 C for 20 Minutes.
  9. Your homemade health bread is ready!
