Our Story: From Passion to Food Blogging
A Childhood Fascination with Cooking
My cooking adventures began very early. As a young child, I was fascinated watching my mom in the kitchen: the precise way she’d chop, the art of mixing, and how she pulled out the most amazing meals from simple ingredients. I joined in, starting with the easiest tasks but always yearning to tackle the more complex ones. Cooking became more than just a chore; it was how my mother and I bonded over the years, a shared language of love and flavour.
When did it start?
Foodwini began while I was pursuing my BA (Hons) in English. I’d often bring homemade cakes to share with my university friends, and almost always, someone would ask me for the recipe. Since I’m not one to remember exact quantities offhand, I found myself constantly writing down or texting recipes.
Blogs were gaining popularity at the time, and that’s when the idea clicked: why not put all my easy recipes online? Then, when someone asked for a new recipe, I could simply direct them to my blog. It took a long time to settle on the name, but “Foodwini” stuck – a blend of “food” and “win,” because you’re winning a fantastic recipe here, and the triple “i” is a personal nod to how my first name ends.
There was never a grand plan for me to become a professional food blogger; I simply wanted to share my recipes and passion for cooking, inspiring others to find joy in their own kitchens. If there had been a detailed plan, many things might have been done differently, but my growth as a writer, homecook and food blogger has been truly special. I’m proud of this journey.
What started as a simple sharing platform has transformed into a commitment to quality and professionalism in food blogging. While writing my recipes came naturally to me, food photography was a steep learning curve.
I began with my dad’s old digital camera, eventually transitioning to a Nikon D3500. Initially, I had no clue what I was doing, but research, studying other photographers’ work, learning food styling techniques, and absorbing every tip I could find, my skills steadily improved. I’m still learning every day, constantly striving for better visuals for our delicious recipes. In 2024, I took another leap by joining TikTok, sharing cooking videos shot on my phone, with the goal of creating a video for every recipe on Foodwini.com.
Our Commitment: High-Quality and Tasty Recipes
Today, Foodwini is dedicated to meticulously tested food recipes, with a strong focus on delicious, healthy, and creative vegetarian meals and vegan cooking. We also engage in product reviews, collaborate with brands, develop new recipes for brands, and have even been featured in various Mauritian newspapers. We consider ourselves food bloggers who genuinely love to write about food and personal culinary experiences, which is why you won’t often find us reviewing restaurants. Our essence is about authentic, genuine cooking and sharing that experience with you, while also educating about food and ingredients in our recipes.
